Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (also called endodontics) tackles infection at the centre of a tooth (the root canal system).

When the blood or nerve supply of the tooth has become infected, the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be taken out if root canal treatment isn’t carried out.

During treatment, all the infection is removed from inside the root canal system.

The root canal is filled and the tooth is sealed with a filling or crown to stop it becoming infected again.

Root canal treatment usually requires 2 or 3 visits.

Braces (6 month smiles)

Braces (orthodontic treatment) straighten or move teeth to improve the appearance of the teeth and how they work.

6 month smiles braces are invisible braces are made of a clear plastic.

Dentures

More commonly known as false teeth, dentures are fitted in place of natural teeth. A full set is used to replace all your teeth. A part set is used to replace 1 or more missing teeth.

Dentures are custom-made using impressions (mouldings) from your gums. They’re usually made from metal or plastic. They’re removable so you can clean them, although part dentures can be brushed at the same time as your other teeth.

A full set needs to be removed and soaked in a cleaning solution.

Dentures are important if you lose your natural teeth, as losing your teeth makes it difficult to chew your food, which will adversely affect your diet and may cause your facial muscles to sag.

Children's Dentistry

At Market Cross Dental we believe the key to lifelong good oral health starts with proper education, at an early age, on how to look after your own teeth and recognise any signs of declining oral health.  During your child’s first and subsequent check-ups, our dentists will spend time showing them proper brushing and flossing techniques, providing dietary advice (such as being aware of their sugar intake) and preventative treatment where necessary (such as fissure sealants, topical fluoride applications and oral hygiene vists).  We aim to make their appointments positive and something to look forward to.

Extractions & fillings

Tooth removal is never a pleasant experience but unfortunately there are times when we cannot restore a tooth to its natural form and extraction is the only option. This may be due to a large amount of tooth decay, infection, severe gum disease or a very badly broken or cracked tooth.

Fillings are used to repair a hole in a tooth caused by decay. The most common type of filling is an amalgam, made from a mixture of metals including mercury, silver, tin, copper and zinc.

We will offer the most appropriate type of filling according to your clinical needs. This includes white fillings, if appropriate.

Preventative treatments

Regular visits to our Hygienists will not only help you to keep a beautiful smile but also improve your dental health, prevent or control periodontal (gum) disease, reduce bleeding gums, bad breath and dental decay. Many medical conditions have a knock on effect on our dental health such as Diabetes, kidney disease or medications that have an effect on saliva production and these effects need to be managed. Our team of Hygienists will advise you on how to clean your teeth properly, help you to clean those difficult to reach areas and advise you on what oral health products are best suited to your particular needs.

Aesthetic Dentistry

A crown, or dental cap, is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant. A crown may be needed when a large cavity threatens the health of a tooth. They are typically bonded to the tooth by dental cement.

Veneers are new facings for teeth that disguise a discoloured (rather than a damaged) tooth. To fit a veneer, the front of the tooth is drilled away a little. An impression is taken, and a thin layer of porcelain is fitted over the front of the tooth (similar to how a false fingernail is applied).

General Check Up

A detailed dental examination is the cornerstone of any dental treatment plan. All our patients will receive a thorough examination of teeth, gums and surrounding tissues. Regular dental check ups are important for maintaining your oral health and to allow us to detect and address any dental problems at an early stage, or to plan more complex treatments.
